The Decision 2.0: LeBron chooses Cleveland

By Christopher Slack on July 12, 2014

As sports radio talk show hosts and sports news headed into day 11 of the LeBron James watch, there were still mixed signals out and about as to where LeBron would play basketball in the 2014-2015 NBA season.

At 12:18 p.m. EST, Lee Jenkins, Senior Writer for Sports Illustrated, tweeted out a link to an exclusive “essay” with the words of none other than James, who revealed that he chose to return home to northeastern Ohio.

James revealed that he had made mistakes, but that northeastern Ohio is indeed his home.

In his ‘essay,’ James revealed, “I’m not having a press conference or a party. After this, it’s time to get to work.”  James also said that he and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert have made amends from James’ decision to leave Cleveland.

Since Gilbert’s national television announcement on ESPN entitled “The Decision” to the “The Letter,” in which Gilbert said that James would regret the day he left Cleveland, the city has still not had a sports championship in 50 years.

In his essay to Jenkins, James added, “I always believed that I’d return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I just didn’t know when…Our city hasn’t had that feeling in a long, long, long time. My goal is still to win as many titles as possible, no question. But what’s most important for me is bringing one trophy back to Northeast Ohio.”

He added that the only team he would’ve left the Miami Heat for was the Cavs.

James joins the team with two-time All Star G Kyrie Irving, the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, G Andrew Wiggins, G Dion Waiters, F Tristan Thompson, and F/C Anderson Varejao as teammates.

There has been talk that the Cavs would trade for an All-Star if James were to return, but they have been reluctant to give up Wiggins.

Much more will be revealed today as the NBA picture changes. With James agreeing to go home, many free agents will begin signing contracts.

For now, the one thing that is known is that the Cavaliers are projected to win the NBA Championship next season at a 4/1.
